Further to my last question about Mutterschutz and Elternzeit – which “geld” does the mother receive? It’s because the mother is fully paid the normal salary during Mutterschaftsgeld, but only paid 65% of her salary during Elternzeit. If Elternzeit covers Mutterschutz, does the mother receive full salary or just 65%? Thank you.

The ‘Mutterschaftsgeld’ and employer’s allowance are offset against the ‘Elterngeld’. That means mothers, that receive one or both of the benefits have to apply for Elterngeld for the affected month after giving birth.
